The first and foremost step in the journey is to go to the ‘Start’ and then click ‘Run’.
In the box that appears, type “regedit” and then click on ‘OK’ to open the registry editor.
Now, navigate to the path
Search for ‘HungAppTimeout’ and double-click on it. A new window appears. Change the ‘Value data’ from default 5000 to 1000. Once finished click OK.
Similarly change the ‘Value data’ from default 20000 to 1000 for ‘WaitToKillAppTimeout’.
Navigate again to
Set the ‘Value data’ to 1000 and click ‘OK’.
Next, we need to edit another option. Navigate to
On reaching to that find out HungAppTimeout.
Now, set the ‘Value data’ to 1000 and click OK.
Search for another item called WaitToKillAppTimeout and set the ‘Value data’ to 1000 and click OK.
You’re done. The values set are not mandatory but can be changed according to the will of the user. Next time your Windows XP shuts down it will take much lesser time.

Navigate again to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > System > CurrentControlSet > Control
and double-click on the ‘WaitToKillServiceTimeout’ item from the right side.Set the ‘Value data’ to 1000 and click ‘OK’.
Next, we need to edit another option. Navigate to
HKEY_USERS > DEFAULT > Control Panel > Desktop
from the left side.On reaching to that find out HungAppTimeout.
Now, set the ‘Value data’ to 1000 and click OK.
Search for another item called WaitToKillAppTimeout and set the ‘Value data’ to 1000 and click OK.
